bloom lamp

Written by topgear. Posted in Electronic, Ideal Life

The heat of the bulb makes this shape-memory alloy lamp ”bloom” whenever the light is turned on.

”hanabi”, the Japanese word for ”fireworks”, literally means ”flower + fire.” Both flowers and fire fade

away so quickly and easily. Like its namesake, this light flickers between beauty and disappearance~

line printer

Written by topgear. Posted in Ideal Life, New Technology

I hate sewing but if you are the sorts who likes to mend their own clothes then the Line Printer

is meant for you. This small device allows the color of sewing-machine thread to be customized

to he color of the cloth being worked upon. You may not have the exact color and re-threading

the machine is always a hassle; with the Line Printer you get to ‘print’ thread with color on demand.

A small built-in camera is used to photograph the fabric, and then color-picking software deter

-mines the ideal shade for the thread. Line Printer sits on the top of the sewing machine and the

thread is fed through it directly off the spool~

Line Printer is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.

Umbrella As A Giant Helmet

Written by topgear. Posted in Cool Accessories, Ideal Life

Umbrellas have needed a redesign for the longest time now.  During heavy rains, even the strongest

umbrellas just can’t protect you with water rushing down from different angles.  We don’t know if this

is the redesign to finally fix that problem, but the Rainshader does seem like it might prove more use

-ful for those situations. Shaped like a giant motorcycle helmet, the uniquely-designed umbrella offers

equal rain protection from the top, back, and sides.  More than an umbrella, it’s like walking with a

portable tent on a stick, holding you inside its protective walls as the torrent of rain continues to

pour heavily around it~
